When we reach the bottom of Loch Broom, the road rises again through an old pine wood where we have to get off and push again. At a height of 170 m where the wood comes to an end, there is a look-out point over a deep ravinewith a river at the bottom. It’s a popular place with a big parking space where several buses are parked. After this point, the ascent is very gradual until we reach a large open landscape at around 277 m. The road goes along a series of lakes which end in a large dam where the descent towards Garve starts. Near the dam we come to the Altguish Inn mentioned before, where we have a cup of tea. Then it’s downhill all the way, and we arrive at the station at Garve at 4:15. We’re in luck, there’s a train at 4:43 to Inverness. When the train arrives, we push the bikes in, but the conductor is about to stop us, when he finds out that we have not booked a place for the bikes. Luckily he’s ready to waive rules with a small speech on the necessity for booking ahead for bikes, so we get installed and proceed to Inverness. Having just come down from the peace and quiet of the Highlands, Inverness seems incredibly hectic with streams of cars and people, and we give up finding our own accomodation and get on to the Tourist Office after having secured a booking for the bikes on the train to Glasgow tomorrow. At the Tourist Office they find us a B&B a little way from the town centre, and our host there recommends a walk along the Caledonian Canal to a small inn close by where the food is really good. It is, and after our walk and our meal, we’re ready to drop off to sleep.
