Saturday 15 July 2000

Today we’re heading for Garve, where we can pick up the train for Inverness. It’s a trip of about 40 miles with quite a climb up from Ullapool. However, we have perfect weather, the sun is shining, the wind is at our back, and though having to get off and push on the first stretch up from Ullapool, the rest of the climb is very gradual. The scenery is absolutely marvellous, the most beautiful we have seen yet, and the whole day the best we’ve had. On the way we pass a Victorian garden open to the public, Leckmelm Garden, a perfectly lovely old garden with many rare trees and shrubs of great age growing down to Loch Broom.
