Bicycle trip in the South West of Ireland 1996
A view towards Reenard's Point from Knightstown, Valencia Island
© Ole Jacobi July 1996
We were looking for the small ferry to Valencia Island, and one small
boy assured us that it was there and operating. No signs pointed the way,
though, and only an inquiry at the inn on the waterfront in Reenard Point
divulged that we just had to stand on the dilapidated pier with its big
signs of no access and wait, and the skipper of the small ferry boat would
spy us and come over from Knightstown on Valencia and fetch us. Which he
did, bikes and all. In Knightstown we took a turn around the place to look
for B&B places, and deciding that we wanted something a little more
cosy than the very new and immaculate houses that offered, we decided on
an older house in a beautiful row of houses facing the sea. We had a big,
very nice room looking out to the sea, and felt like guests in a private
home which is really what you are looking for in a B&B place. The bathroom
not being 'en suite', the price was very reasonable at 13,50 pounds.
