After a meal in the cafeteria, we spend the rest of the two-and-a half hour trip on deck with an intermittent sun to cheer us. When we arrive in Ullapool, however, black clouds are gathering. The outlook for further travel is not good. In the Tourist Office near the harbour, they tell us that there is no accomodation on the Ullapool to Inverness road until Altguish Inn which is at least 30 miles away, so we opt for a hotel in Ullapool, as the time is now nearly 4. We stay at the Riverside Guest House and have our dinner down by the harbour in a non-licensed restaurant, where you go to the bar next door to fetch the drink you want with your meal. A practical way of defying the licensing laws.
