A Trip to Scotland and the Western Isles July 2000                    dansk

In the bay of Bagh Chornaig we see a seal sticking its head out of the water, and further on we come to the beatiful beaches at Bhatarsaigh, the southernmost village of the islands. We sit on the beach and look out over the bay of Bagh Siar where an emigrant ship, the Annie Jane was wrecked in the 1850s with 350 casualties. A bit inland, on a hill, there is a memorial to the event. Like many other places on the islands, the beaches are backed by dunes, and further inland the land is covered by the machair, short grasses interspersed with thousands of different flowers.
