Beaumaris to Bull Bay
Wednesday 16 July 1997

After all the traffic yesterday, we longed for the quiet country roads, and found them by going inland, avoiding the coast road all the way to Amlwch on the north coast of Anglesey. It was hard work going up and down, but well worth the blessing of the quiet roads. We passed some ancient burial grounds on the way which were marked on the map, but not all visible on the land. Having passed a disused copper quarry on the way, a weird and disquieting place with an old stone tower presiding over it (perhaps a wind-mill?), we reached the coast at Amlwch, pronounce it if you can. This town and port seemed dominated by a large factory of some kind, we never found out what, and B&Bs were thin on the ground. The atmosphere was not very good, so we took the coast road on to Bull Bay, a quiet little resort with 2 hotels, and no B&Bs, so we chose one of the hotels. It was quite nice, and not terribly expensive (£22,50 p.p.), and it certainly had a lovely view over the Irish Sea.
