The weather has broken in the night, and after a very nice breakfast of homegrown products, we put on our raingear and cycle towards Charlottetown in the rain. It clears up when we cross the North River just before town, and we find our pre-booked B&B at the tip of Lewis Point in a mainly residential area. The afternoon is spent in shopping and checking out the point of departure of the shuttle to Halifax we're booked on tomorrow at 12.

After a continental breakfast and an interesting talk with a couple from New Foundland, we head for Schmitty's restaurant which is the departure point for the shuttle. We have a last Canadian meal of pancakes in the crowded restaurant, surrounded by all shapes and sizes of Canadians and Americans. Just before departure, we dismantle the front wheels of the bikes, and the lot is stowed in the shuttle which is a minibus taking 8 passengers and their gear. As we leave Charlottetown and PEI across the Confederation Bridge, there's a lively conversation and exchange of life stories in the bus, something we're not used to in Europe. Across New Brunswick the landscape is wooded and hilly and quite thinly populated. We cross into Nova Scotia at Amherst and stop for a short break at Oxford. At 3,45 pm we're at Halifax Airport, and at 9,15 pm our plane leaves for Europe.
As can be read from the text, this has not been a very strenous trip (583 kms altogether in 14 days), but considering the age of the participants (69), not too bad. A common reaction from many of the people we met who were surprised that at our age we would even consider mounting a bicycle, let alone go so far as we did. There has been stop-over days and long afternoons on the beach, and more than anything, there has been a lot of interesting talk, with B&B hosts and with fellow guests.
The roads have been fair, and the traffic not too heavy. Even at the height of the season in July, accomodation has been easy to find, and compared with Danish prices not at all expensive. So, altogether, and from a bicyclist's view, Prince Edward Island is certainly worth a visit.
