Harlech to Llanrystud
Wednesday 23 July 1997

Today we decided to take the train to Aberystwith to see something of Mid- and South Wales as well and evade the large road which is the only connection. We were lucky to arrive at the station in Harlech just a quarter of an hour before one of the two trains of the day at 10,25. The bikes just fit in with no trouble, but after changing at Machynlleth, it was a bit more difficult to find room for them, there really was no suitable space in that modern train.
Aberystwith turned out to be a fairly large town which we left after a sandwich at the station and after acquiring maps of the districts coming up. Getting off the main road as soon as possible, we travelled by smaller, steeper roads inland to the village of Llanwyryfon. No B&Bs here, so we returned to the coast at Llanrystud. After a bit of looking around, we found accomodation with a couple living in an old converted barn (£15 ). Dinner in the nearby pub.
