The principal building at the airport of Kangerlussuaq houses the transit hall and a hotel, both managed by KNI (?) Here are all the ordinary facilities of any airport: booking and transport office, check-in, information desk and duty-free shop. The hotel offers a choice of a cafeteria and a restaurant - all very Danish. South of the landing strip, the American Air Base can be seen, now only a ghost of its former glory in the 1960s. A small American world among the mountains of Greenland.

While we are waiting, we walk down to the river, or look at the moose, or play cards, or shop in the duty-free shop etc. I'm allowed a peep at the inner sanctum of the holy of holies, the bag housing the new XTV camera which has cost 25,000 Danish kroner. Our TV-team, Lars and Brian, takes great pride in their new acquisition which they claim takes the best pictures in the world. They keep a tight hold of the camerabag, and promise us that they are going to produce such films as will make Danish television crews pale with envy.

Finally at 6.40, we depart for Ilulissat on GL 586, a small DASH-7 seating 50 persons.
