While we were in Truro yesterday, we booked a B&B at Pictou, where the ferry to PEI leaves from. We reach Pictou at 4 pm after 65 km and visit the Tourist Office to get directions to Brenda's Place, our B&B, and to get information about trains to Halifax with a view to our home transport. It turns out there's only one train a week from Montreal to Halifax, and it does not stop at any place, we plan to visit, so that option is definitely out.
At Brenda's we are warmly welcomed by Brenda herself who tells us about the Annual Lobster Carnival held in Pictou every year in July. At the Curling Club you can buy a lobster dinner for 18$, a fantastic meal including a whole lobster with potato salad and dessert. It is served in a big hall with long tables and a Scots-looking man in a kilt to welcome you. I suppose he's a descendant of one of the 189 Scots immigrants who were the first to arrive in Pictou in 1773. A full-size replica of the ship they came on, the "Hector", is anchored in the harbour, open to visitors.
